Error: “Illegal characters in path”

Problem

The following message appears when you attempt to open Revu:

Illegal characters in path

Cause

This error occurs if corrupt recovery files are in the Recovery folder, which can occur if Revu previously stopped responding.

Solution

Rename the .BRF files in the Recovery folder: 

  1. Open Windows File Explorer.
  2. Navigate to 
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Bluebeam\Revu\[version number]\Recovery
  3. Rename all .BRF files to have the .OLD extension.
  4. Restart Revu.
